MASONRY PAINTS

The choice for modern exterior masonry paints is many and varied, offering an apparent vast array of different feature`s and benefits which offer a low cost solution to the question of exterior decoration. There are 3 or 4 major brands that control the lions share of the market and undoubtedly are to be seen adorning properties the length and breadth of our green and pleasant land . . .obviously we don`t need to acquire a permit or license to purchase or apply masonry paint and as such every manufacturer has a duty of care to ensure that in terms of health and safety their products are absolutely idiot proof, which can limit the effectiveness of these products, but millions of people can`t be wrong , can they ?

In the modern format they claim to be waterproof and breathable, they are however water based! Given the ravages of the British climate is this an ideal scenario? Our ANDURA textured wall coatings are acrylic based for maximum protection and longevity, but the differences don`t end there ; with a modern external masonry paint to compare directly just  for  thickness alone our wall coatings are about 20 times as thick as single coat of masonry paint, yet still waterproof, flexible and breathable, this obviously makes a massive difference in the level of protection afforded, so for masonry paint users less protection means more frequent application; a labour of love or a pain in the neck?

Ultimately when the job is done we all want it to look nice so maybe that`s where masonry paints come into their own? . . .well any d.i.y`er or tradesman will tell you the value in any project is in the preparation and the attention to detail , to simplify this we could say that with exterior decoration the job falls into 2 categories; the repair or making good of the wall and the actual painting or coating. With a “thin” conventional external masonry paint if the surface requires any kind of repair even with the best will in the world it is virtually impossible to get an exact match in order to create a nice uniform finish (this is especially noticeable in the sun, see above), so not really fairing that well in the beauty stakes either!

But especially in these troubled times cost is obviously a major factor; the masonry paint option might be cheaper to apply today but if we have to then do the same job over and over again would it really make financial sense? Seeing as things rarely get cheaper. . . so all things considered would it not make sense to get the job done just the once but properly (with an ANDURA wall coating product), and guaranteed to boot?. . .
